CAIROS BEARS & BUTTERFLIES
INTERACTIVE SUMMER
PROGRAM RETURNS!!
Thirty-five, three feet high creatively decorated fiberglass bears are something not to miss! Cairo's Bears and Butterflies and America's Original Vacationland Quest 2011 is a fun and interactive public arts project. From Memorial Day to Labor Day these bears will be displayed along Main Street and throughout Cairo;s hamlets. In addition to the great design of these bears, they also hold an interactive component, which is a great family fun, savenger hunt type activity. Each bear displays a small butterfly with a hidden clue. One clue on each bear corresponds to our America's Original Vacationland “Quest”-ions about Cairo's history, when steamships and railroads transported visitors to Cairo to enjoy the scenic vistas, grand resorts and the Greene County Fairgounds where trotters ran and agriculture fairs were held. As a Quest Explorer, you are faced with the exciting challenge of searching for clues, answering questions, and submitting the correct responses to become eligible to win great prizes!! The project will culminate at our Bear A ‘Fair’ Gala and Auction September 10th where our bodacious bruins will go on the auction block. Proceeds from this exciting event will go to benefit local charities and to promote future chamber projects.
